Individual psychotherapy for children and adolescents

Individual psychotherapy for young people is meetings with a psychotherapist, the purpose of which is to provide support to a young person and help in understanding their own emotions and behaviors. Adolescence is the time when a teenager may experience many dynamic changes in the field of biological, mental and social functioning. The developmental task at this stage of life is to define one’s own identity, which is why there are situations in which a young person needs external support.

W Gabinetach Psychoterapii SELFCARE prowadzimy:

  • psychological consultations for children from 7 years of age,

  • consultations and psychological support for young people,

  • individual psychotherapy in the psychodynamic trend for children from 7 years of age and adolescents.

An important healing factor in the psychotherapy of children and teenagers is cooperation with parents. We invite children and adolescents together with their parents or legal guardians for the first consultation. In the case of psychotherapy of children and adolescents, the consent of both parents is required. A teenager over the age of 16 must consent to participate in consultations and / or psychotherapy.

Frequently Asked Questions

From what age is child psychotherapy possible?
We work with children from age 2 (play therapy), and individual therapy with adolescents is possible from age 12. The format depends on age and the problem.
Does a parent have to be present during sessions?
With very young children (up to ~6 years) parental presence is often required. With older children we usually work individually, with periodic parent meetings.
How long does child therapy last?
Depends on the problem – short intervention may last 5–15 sessions; long-term therapy for more serious difficulties may last several months to a year or more. The therapist will outline a plan after consultation.
Do you cooperate with school or school psychologist?
With written parental consent we can consult with the school or school psychologist – maintaining professional confidentiality and acting in the child”s best interest.
