Consultation is the first and necessary step before making a decision about psychotherapy. Usually, these are several meetings during which the psychotherapist learns about the patient’s personal difficulties, while the patient learns the method of treatment and the principles of psychotherapy.
In some situations, it is recommended to conduct psychotherapy in cooperation with a doctor, which is discussed during the consultation. The consultation stage ends with the establishment of a therapeutic contract, which includes, among others, the frequency of meetings, terms of cooperation, and payment terms.
